A total of 180 2024 Low Carbon City Awards including four (4) Special Awards were given to Local Authorities (PBT), developers, universities, building owners and stakeholders at this ceremony.
In 2024, the implementation of the Low Carbon City Initiative has successfully reduced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 465,000.02 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and the total carbon sequestration achieved is 29,592.84 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This achievement is equivalent to planting 12.4 million trees or reducing 107,063 cars per year on the road.
The Kluang City Zone has successfully obtained the three (3) Diamond award for the Low Carbon City Challenge 2030 Program. A 12% reduction in GHG emissions from the base year 2019 equivalent to 104.03 tCO2/year. Among the activities implemented were the Car Free Day Program, Recycling Program, saving electricity and planting shade trees in the urban area.
Mr. Mohd Fahmy Bin Yahya, Chairman of the Kluang Municipal Council was present to receive the award which was presented by YB Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability at the Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara Hotel.
